Rules for Participation

Participation Guidelines/ Information

  • Artists are required to register first. Deadline to submit approved and final artwork is April 10, 2023
  • We will exhibit no more than 2 pieces per artist
  • We encourage artists to submit art that is based around the theme - I am… (please see detailed description below. The examples and details are not meant to be restrictive and artists are welcome to explore their own interpretations of the theme.
  • Canvas and framed work - including framed drawings, photography, mixed media art, small scale 3-D art installations as well as small sculptures accepted 
  • Nudity allowed, but works depicting sexual acts will not be accepted
  • Blood, gore, or other violent works will not be accepted
  • Works that may be triggering or traumatizing to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or child abuse will not be accepted
  • Artists must be at least 18 years of age
  • Raksha staff reserves the right to accept or reject artwork based on the rules and guidelines and ask for modifications when required.
  • All submissions must be sent to [email protected]
  • Artwork submissions should include two clear pictures of artwork , name and short description of the artwork. 
  • All entries must be in by April 10, 2023 at 11:59pm.
  • The Raksha Art Show is held in benefit of the survivors of violence we serve. We will not be taking commissions from the sale of art. However, to exhibit artwork at the Raksha Art Show, we are asking artists to:
  • pay $5 as hanging fee
  • donate 10% from your sales at the show to Doraville Art Center (DART). You can factor in this percentage into your price and make the payment to DART. DART is a nonprofit organization that is committed to create and encourage art in the city of Doraville to the benefit of the community through advocacy, education and opportunity and facilitate new public art in Doraville, including art by new artists and artists from under-represented communities.

(If you were to consider donating to Raksha, Inc or DART in addition to the hanging fee and 10% to DART, you will be able to do so at the venue during the Opening Night or the following days of the exhibition until May 11, 2023.

Please register to inform us of your intention in participating as an artist at the 2023 Raksha Art Show. Please give us as many details as possible about the artwork you intend to submit. You will be able to edit the details after you submit the form until the submission deadline.

We invite artists to explore and interpret the theme ‘I am…’ to depict

... mutuality and intersectionality - between the different forms of violence (gender based violence, sexual assault and abuse) experienced by individuals and how they may, directly or indirectly, compound global problems. For example, how gender inequality coupled with the climate crisis poses greater threats to ways of life, livelihoods, health, safety and security for women and girls around the world.

... interconnectedness - between ‘them’ and ‘us’. We are all connected. Injustice to one or a few cannot be viewed in isolation but as a potential threat to justice for everyone.  

... feelings and reactions to what is going on in the world (for example, continuing gender-based and sexual violence, current geopolitical conflicts, climate change, the refugee crisis, threat to reproductive rights). 

… how they disconnect or create safe “bubbles” or spaces for healing from the trauma of injustice and in the chaos around them. 

 The examples and prompts provided are NOT meant to be restrictive and artists are welcome to portray their own interpretations of the theme.

Everyone is welcome to join this free community event but we require you to RSVP for the Opening Night. Donations are highly encouraged in benefit of survivors of violence as well as our venue host Doraville Art Center.

The venue is located in downtown Doraville across from the Gold Line MARTA station. Parking is free in the adjacent parking lot, with multiple options for street parking. 

DART is a nonprofit organization that strives to create and encourage art in the city of Doraville to the benefit of the community through advocacy, education and opportunity.

We are excited to announce the 2023 Raksha Art Show  from April 28  -  May 12, 2023!!

This is the fourth in the series of annual art events hosted by Raksha that seek to bring together community and artists – amateur and professional; offbeat or traditional – and use art to inspire conversations around gender-based violence, abuse, trauma and rising to resilience. We see art as a form of healing and empowerment for survivors and a creative platform for diverse voices and unique perspectives.

In 2019, we were proud to showcase brilliant creations from 28 local artists around the theme Womens’ empowerment (I Believe: Stories of Strength). In 2020, our virtual art show showcased original works of art from 25 artists on the theme of resilience. This year, we are back with an in-person art show at the Doraville Art Center. If you are an artist and interested in participating, please register now!  The submission deadline for final artwork is April 10, 2023.
