Summary
Raksha is seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed Parenting Specialist to support survivors of domestic violence and their families in building healthier relationships and promoting emotional well-being. This role focuses on working with individuals and families by providing parenting education, support groups, and family-centered activities. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse communities, particularly survivors of trauma, and a strong foundation in culturally responsive, evidence-based practices.
We prefer a candidate who is a licensed Family Therapist with specialization in parenting for this role but we are also open to considering a qualified Parenting Coach with relevant experience and a strong background in trauma-informed care.
Please note: The qualifications and responsibilities for this role are listed separately for candidates who are Family Therapists and Parenting Coaches, as they will vary depending on the professional expertise the candidate brings. Key Responsibilities
- Provide trauma-informed, culturally competent, individual and family-focused services to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
- Facilitate parenting support groups and peer support sessions that address parenting challenges, emotional well-being, and caregiver confidence.
- Conduct regular parenting classes tailored to diverse cultural backgrounds, promoting resilience and effective parenting strategies.
- Plan and lead interactive family activities that encourage bonding, positive communication, and emotional connection.
- Collaborate with other professionals (e.g. therapists, advocates, and other staff) to ensure coordinated, client-centered care.
- Creating or working with SME (subject matter experts) to create a parenting handbook for survivors
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) , grant-related and organizational policies.
- Participate in program evaluations and contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Represent the parenting program at community events, workshops, and outreach efforts to build awareness and engagement.
- Work under the direction or guidance of internal supervisory staff
- Attend grant-related meetings and conferences
- Assist with grant documentation, reporting and management
Additional Responsibilities – Applicable to Candidates who are Family therapists:
- Ability to accurately evaluate the psychological and emotional needs of parents and families.
- Diagnose and treat parental mental health conditions that affect parenting capacity and family well-being.
- Offer psychoeducation to parents about child developmental stages, common mental health concerns in children, and effective ways to support their children’s emotional well-being.
- Facilitate therapy sessions involving both parents and children to improve communication, strengthen attachment, and address specific behavioral or emotional issues in the child.
Key Qualifications: for candidates who are Family Therapists
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Licensure or license-eligible (LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or equivalent); associate licensees must have access to their own clinical supervision.
- 2–5 years of clinical/counseling experience working with survivors (children and families) of domestic violence.
- Experience documentation in EHR (e.g Simple Practice)
Key Qualifications: For Candidates who are Parenting Coaches
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field such as child development, psychology, social work, or education is often preferred.
- Applicable certification in Parenting Coaching preferred
- A strong understanding of child development stages, theories, and best practices.
Key Qualifications: Applicable to All Candidates
- Expertise in trauma-informed care, child development, parenting interventions, and attachment theory.
- Cultural competence and experience working with South Asian or other immigrant communities.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Proficiency in one or more South Asian languages is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills.
Salary range: 55,000-65,000 Full-Time annually with insurance and benefits.

Raksha Board of Directors :
Job Description & Details
The Raksha Board of Directors is accepting nominations. The Board is responsible for setting policies for Raksha as well as ensuring its financial and operational stability. The Board meets monthly and each member takes a significant role in one or more of the Board’s volunteer committees. The main committees of the Board are Fundraising, Operations, and PR/Outreach. Board members generally serve a six year term. Raksha encourages individuals who have benefited from Raksha’s services to apply.
Qualifications:
- Have demonstrated one year commitment to Raksha.
- Have the ability to represent Raksha well and in a manner consistent with our mission
- Have strong leadership skills
- Be able to increase community relationships with Raksha.
- Have previous board experience. Preferred but not required.
- Have some experience in one or more of these areas: fundraising, marketing, family, corporate, or immigration law, technology development, organizational viability, strategic planning, accounting, non profit management and fiscal management.
- Have an understanding of Raksha’s work or the issues that Raksha deals with (either through personal experience, volunteer experience, or training).
- Be committed towards a stronger and healthier South Asian American community and social justice work.
