Pride Month (October) 2020: ATL Q& A, 50th Anniversary of ATL Pride, LGBT History Month!

Did you know that October is also LGBT History and Pride Month and October 11 is National Coming Out Day?

October 2020 also marks the 50th year of Atlanta Pride! In 2019, Raksha, Inc was proud to be a Grand Marshall at the Atlanta Pride Parade. This year, the Atlanta Pride’s 50th anniversary festival is a virtual event with a fantastic line-up of live-streamed events and Raksha is excited to be a part of this virtual celebration. In honor of Pride Month, here’s highlighting some important events around ATL Pride awareness and events:

October 6, 2020 | 6:30 PM: Get to Know Your Queer and Trans Asian History in Atlanta

Join Raksha, Inc for this event on October 6, 2020, as we co-host this event by ATL Queer + Asian (ATL Q+A) in partnership with Atlanta Pride, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, to help create more awareness around the LGBTQIA+ & GNC history of Asian Americans in Atlanta. The virtual panel event will include three panelists from the Atlanta LGBTQIA+ & GNC Asian American community – Feroza Sayed, Florence, and Asha Leong where they will be speaking about the rich history of LGBTIQ+ and GNC Asian American history in Atlanta. This is a great opportunity to understand where we came from, where we are now, and where we want to go.

Sunday, October 25, 2020 | 5-7PM: October Talking QRAP:  Fatphobia

This month, we will be doing a deep discussion on Fatphobia for our Talking QRAP Series. Fatphobia is the fear of obesity. Join us for this interesting discussion where we learn how to tackle the myths about health, desirability, and much more. We will be also learning how to answer questions like why do white beauty standards harm us and how to navigate family and community as a fat Asian person?  The talk will be given Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 5pm- 7pm via Zoom.
