Raksha, NetIP Atlanta to hold immigration town hall meeting

Monday, March 1, 2004, Atlanta -- Raksha and NetIP Atlanta will hold a town hall meeting on Saturday, March 6 at the Maharaja restaurant on Lavista Road to discuss the proposal put forth by President Bush in early January to grant temporary legal status to millions of undocumented workers.

The meeting will also discuss other immigration proposals currently making their way through Congress and how they might impact the South Asian community. The meeting will end with a discussion on what the émigré community can do politically in this election year.

"Raksha hopes the immigration panel will dispel myths that might mislead community members and provide a space where the community can get the right information about the latest immigration laws," said Raksha's Executive Director Aparna Bhattacharya.

"Immigration is a topic that either directly or indirectly affects many South Asians today," said Ashish Mistry, president, NetIP Atlanta. "We're happy to be working together with Raksha to bring such an event to our members and the members of the greater Atlanta community."
